Witch Hunter Robin - Episode Eight: Faith Version: 1.0 Date: July 18, 2003 Air Date: August 20, 2002 Summary by: Kala Mekiv (orbo@vauss.com) Website: http://vauss.com/usuyami Distribution of this summary is FORBIDDEN without permission from either Kala Mekiv or Shinji (csdiaz@edisto.cofc.edu). --------------------------------------------------------- A man (dressed as though he's a Mafia member or something) walks down a street-cluttered alley in the rain as he is trailed by another wearing a black trenchcoat. The first man stops in front of a Bepsi machine, kicking it and drops his cigarette. He finally notices the man trailing him, asking him what he's doing. He approaches the other one, mockingly asking if he can spare some change for a soda. From the shadows, another man comes from behind, placing a chlorophyll-drenched rag upon Mafia-man's face and smashing his glasses. Mafia man clings onto the trenchcoated man as long as he can, then releases his hold after the chlorophyll takes effect and he passes out. The other two men stand and watch him for a while... Mafia-man is taken to a room in the Toto Taka no Dai General Hospital, where a patient lies unconscious, as though she has been prepped for surgery. A doctor pulls back the white sheet that covers her, commenting on the patient's history--she has suffered from complications following a recent surgery. The first doctor blames himself for not being skilled enough, while the other doctor in the room tells him he did nothing wrong. He extends an arm over the body of an unconscious man (Mafia-man), spreading his arm out as he says "Besides, she'll be better very soon." Lightning flashes as a small amount of light as Doctor Kurosawa closes his eyes, focusing his energy entirely on the two bodies lying side by side, with a hand placed on each one. One of his hands begin to glow, followed by the other about ten seconds later as Kurosawa transfers the life-energy of Mafia man over to the young patient. Thirty seconds later, the transfer is over. The other doctor in the room watches in awe, amazed at seeing the rumor becoming a reality before his eyes. He says, "Kurosawa, as I thought, you are the Chosen One." Kurosawa ignores his comment and tells him to dispose of Mafia-man's body "like [he] usually [does]." [OP] Robin sits at the bar in Harry's, appearing as though she's coughing up a lung. The master appears, offering her a cup of hot ginger water with honey to help alleviate her symptoms, saying that it works best for colds when Robin asks. Robin thanks him, and the master asks her if she was working in the rain without an umbrella (they're actually three separate questions...). Robin nods her head to all three, unable to speak due to her coughing fits. Harry grabs a piece of paper, and writes down the name of a doctor and the hospital she should go to after drinking the ginger water. [AN: Such a sweet man, isn't he? ;.;] Robin takes a bus down to the hospital, where she sees Doctor Kurosawa. He examines her throat and says it's very swollen. While he writes up the prescription, he asks Robin if she's feeling sort anywhere else. Robin replies that she isn't and Kurosawa tells her about all the sick children who are unable to do anything because of their illness. He hands her the prescription and sends her off to get it at the counter. As Robin prepares to walk off (and the nurse invites another patient in to see the doctor), Kurosawa says, "Green onion." Puzzles, Robin turns around and asks "What?", to which Kurosawa explains that green onions around the neck may work better than his prescription. Robin is still left bewildered by his 'other' prescription as she goes to get her prescription. On her way out, she passes by two doctors discussing some paperwork that needed to be taken care of at the police department for a patient who died from a heart attack caused by a drug overdose on their way to a higher floor. In Mizutani Kumi (the patient)'s room, a visiting patient asks her how she feels. Kumi replies that she feels alive thanks to the success of Doctor Kirihara's skils. Kirihara replies that she only feels better because she did her best. The other patient asks Kirihara if she will also feel better if she tries her best. Kumi tells her "As long as you believe in him, you'll be fine," asking Kirihara if she's right. Kirihara replies that she's right. In another room, Doctor Kurosawa looks over the records of the girl (Kayama Risa) as Kirihawa explains how diffcult it will be to perform an operation on her while studying x-rays of her chest. Kirihara says that she has dreams--dreams he would like to see her live to fulfull--and asks Kurosawa for his assistance once more with his powers. Kurosawa asks him if it's alright, since it will be Kurosawa who gets the credit for curing her and not his colleague. Kirihara says it's fine, since he is respected enough thanks to Kurosawa's power. Kurosawa places the girl's record down and says, "I never believed in God or Buddha, but something like that exists. The power... soemthing that give me the power to control one's life..." Kirihara says that it is Kurosawa's destiny, and Kurosawa replies that he will fulfill it. Kirihara already has found a former patient that would be suitable for the "donation", explaining that he is an unnecessary human. At Raven's Flat, STN-J is in the middle of another meeting. Robin seems to have "zoned out" right in the middle of Zaizen's explaination, so he turns his full attention on her. Robin snaps out of her trance noticing the glances she's getting from Doujima and explains that she has a cold. Zaizen pauses momentarily, and continues. The police autopsy said taht the recovered corpsed died from a heart attack, but because the victim was a witch, the corpse's identity was immediately picked up by STN-J's computers after being added into the police mainframe. Because of the match on STN-J's computers, they corpse underwent a second autopsy--this time by STN-J. Amon explains that STN-J's autopsy report revealed the witch's death as a result of necrosis of the heart, something only caused by witchcraft. STN-J isn't sure whether the witch caused it by setting off his own ability on accident, or whether it was an attack from another witch. When asked why the autopsy reports were so different, Michael pulls up information on a similar case that occured three years earlier. Both autopsies were performed by Kirihara Kazuhiro--who works as a part-time coroner currently at the same hospital Robin went to earlier. Robin perks up at that bit of information as Michael continues explaining that Kirihara has done numerous autopsies on Japanese Mafia members who died of similar symptoms. Doujima thinks that he could be the witch, as does Amon, so they agree to keep an eye on him. [EYECATCH] At a fancy steakhouse, Kirihara is dining with a member of the Japanese Mafia. Kirihara apparently owes the Mafia guy some money, and he tells Kirihara that he will pay it back with his life as he eats. Kirihara remains quiet while the other man drinks his tea and thanks him for helping him live, showing him the scar from his operation. Kirihara slipped a bug into his bag so that Kurosawa can overhear their conversation while sitting in the car. Kurosawa mutters, "Unnecessary human..." A short time later, the dining room Kirihara and the Mafia man were dining is empty, as a waitress calls for someone to bring the bill to them. Kirihara placed the sleeping man into the car where Kurosawa waited for him, and they drive off. Nearby in the garage, Amon, Karasuma, and Robin watch as they pull out and follow them. Sakaki is also with them, following in his motorcycle. Some time passes, and Kirihara looks out a side mirror, commenting that he believes they are being followed. Kurosawa says, "So, you think so too?" Kirihara believes them to be the police, thinking they have discovered the autopsies are forgeries. Kurosawa replies that they aren't cops and that they are most likely after him and his power. Kirihara drives faster, trying to lose them and says that no one else knows about Kurosawa's power other than them. Suddenly, the Mafia man comes to, mumbling something about not wanting anymore to drink, and grabs hold of the steering wheel. Kirihara loses control and drives into a construction lot. Both men walk out of the car as the STN-J people pull up. Sakaki stops his bike, and says that the men have gone up into the building currently under construction. Amon says they have no choice but to follow them, telling Robin and Sakaki to go in to capture him, while he and Karasuma go around to the back. Inside the building, Kirihara desperately tries to hide from the hunters, running around until he accidently mets up with Sakaki. Kirihara asks Sakaki why a kid such as himself is doing what he does, and Sakaki says he doesn't have to answer to a witch. Kirihara replies, "Witch?" as Kurosawa startles Sakaki from behind. Sakaki drops his gun when Kirihara grabs and gags him as Kurosawa takes off his gloves, prepared to steal his lifeforce. Sakaki struggles as best as he can against the two men, but Kurosawa tries to initiate the lifeforce transfer anyway. Sakaki's Orbo-filled cross begins to glow, protecting him from the effects of Kurosawa's powers. Kurosawa doesn't understand why his powers aren't working on Sakaki, so Kirihara tells him to try again. Before Kurosawa can do that, Robin uses her Craft to startle them. Sakaki drops to the ground as his released by Kirihara as Robin approaches them. Kurosawa immediately recognizes Robin as his patient from earlier in the day, and asks her what she is doing there. Robin ignores his question and says that he is the witch she was sent to hunt. She sets Kirihara's tie on fire, and the man runs away in terror. Kurosawa is surprised, asking Robin, "You also have some kind of a power...?" before he runs after Kirihara. Robin bends down to pick up Sakaki's Orbo gun, then checks to make sure he's okay. Sakaki tells her he's fine and to chase after the two men. Robin leaves him with his Orbo gun and pursues them. Kurosawa continues running from Robin over the metal supports of the building as she follows him in her typical calm manner. She finally traps him on the end of a ledge, saying that it is his duty to save people's lives. Robin replies that he has also killed innocent people, but he explains that the people he killed weren't innocent at all and deserved it. Robin says that he has no right to decide who lives or dies, and uses her Craft to startle him. Amon and Karasuma watch from the round as Robin uses it once more to force Kurosawa to surrender. Kurosawa agrees to surrender just as Kirihara jumps from a higher level down in an attempt to stop Robin, teling Kurosawa to run away. The force of Kirihara's impact (combined with Robin's fire Craft having weakened it somewhat) causes the ledge they were standing on to collapse and break apart. Amon watches the entire scene and orders Karasuma to stop the mission. Karasuma starts running towards the front, visibly worried about Robin. Robin struggles to stand up, but stops when she notices that the part of the ledge she landed on is weakened. Kurosawa tells her to stay as still as possible as he watches her. He checks on Kirihara and looks away. He then looks at Robin and says, "Witch... are there witches other than you and I? Humans with powers that were given to them by someone?" Robin says nothing as Kurosawa continues. "How do they use them--their own powers, that is? Do they accept them--the destiny they were given?" He then says he will use the destiny given to him, and places a hand on Kirihara's chest and another on his own. He uses his power to revive Kirihara, giving him his own lifeforce as Robin watches. During the energy exchange, he asks Robin, "Are you going to obey it also... your own destiny?" Robin replies, "My own destiny?" as Kirihara is revived. Kurosawa's final words to his friend are to save Robin for him. Kirihara promises he will, and Kurosawa dies. The next day, Robin is getting her arm bandaged up (apparently, she broke it from the fall). As she walks around the hospital with Amon, he explains that they aren't sure when Kurosawa's power awakened, but he saved many people's lives--Kirihara's patients--with his ability. Robin asks where Kirihara disappeared to, but Amon only replies that he is "under [their] thumb." The final scene shows the two patients from earlier in the episode laughing near the hospital courtyard's fountain. [ED]
